New Family Sports Film “Little Angels” Set for National Release
On Friday, “Little Angels,” a family-oriented sports film written, directed, and produced by Dean Cain, will be nationally released. The film tells the inspiring story of a youth sports team and their tenacious coach.
The narrative focuses on College Division I football coach Jake Lodgers, who finds himself facing significant financial and personal challenges. Cain mentions that his own experiences humorously shaped some elements of the script, specifically a line jokingly claiming, “Soccer is for girls.”
“I always teased about that,” Cain reflected in a conversation.
After a collegiate soccer career at Princeton, Cain joined the Buffalo Bills but his NFL dream was cut short due to a knee injury. He issues a light-hearted challenge with his comments about soccer, acknowledging a broader comic perspective on sports.
In “Little Angels,” Rogers, facing a critical juncture, is forced to coach a 12-year-old girls’ team to avoid losing a million-dollar deal. Cain notes the film’s exploration of teamwork, purpose, and heartfelt family moments, with a message emphasizing the importance of camaraderie.
Reflecting on his character, Cain admits a personal connection, although he’s aware of the challenges a coach can face, particularly regarding women athletes. “I’m a strong supporter of women’s track and field,” he stated. However, he maintains his belief that boys and girls shouldn’t compete together after a certain age.
Of the film, Cain adds, “The essence is a flawed character learning valuable life lessons through teamwork and shared experiences with young athletes.” The film, filled with humor and inspiration, hopes to resonate across generations, tapping into the joy of sports and the bonds they create.
Featuring a cast that includes Lou Ferrigno and Helena Mattson, filming began during the COVID-19 pandemic, reflecting the challenges of assembling a strong ensemble. “The young actresses were remarkable,” he praised, highlighting the talent of the up-and-coming stars in the film.
Cain’s commitment to his craft remains evident, as he is currently working on multiple projects, including a golf-centered film with his son. “Little Angels” first premiered at the International Christian Film Festival in May, where Cain received a Lifetime Achievement Award, further motivating him to continue creating meaningful stories.
Viewers can catch “Little Angels” in theaters starting on June 6, 2025. It promises to be a heartwarming entry in the sports drama genre, appealing to family audiences nationwide.
