The video, which captured Baker packing onion rings on May 21—only hours after graduating from Mills Creek High School—has racked up hundreds of thousands of likes online. In it, Baker proudly displays his cap and gown while briefly stopping to interact with his coworkers.
Interestingly, he quickly jumped in to assist his team, highlighting his commitment even during the busy evening shift. Customer Maria Mendoza filmed the moment and shared it on TikTok, where it resonated with a wide audience.
Mendoza, whose daughter also graduated on the same day, recognized Baker’s outfit immediately. Many viewers commented positively on his impressive work ethic, with messages praising his future potential. “His future is bright,” one user remarked, expressing confidence that Baker would eventually run his own business.
To support Baker’s educational goals, Mendoza launched a GoFundMe campaign, which has since received over 5,500 donations, totaling nearly $200,000. Many alumni were celebrating their achievements, but Baker’s focus on work stood out as a testament to his determination.
Subsequently, the Burger King Foundation surprised him with a $10,000 scholarship during one of his shifts. The marketing director for GPS Hospitality presented Baker with the check, acknowledging his hard work and commitment. Baker’s reaction—gleeful and overwhelmed—was captured in photos shared online.
Interestingly, Baker had initially thought about taking a gap year to save for college. He now plans to focus on automotive technology this fall, thanks to the unexpected support he received. Additionally, Mendoza’s daughter, Daisy Chavez, also received a $10,000 scholarship from Burger King for her studies in neuroscience at Georgia State University.
