Indiana Pacers Make Remarkable Comeback in Game 1 of NBA Finals
Indiana Fever star Caitlyn Clark has dubbed the Pacers as the “biggest comeback team” in her experience. They certainly reaffirmed that title with another comeback, defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-110 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.
Clark, sidelined for weeks due to a quad injury, is receiving accolades on social media. The Pacers managed to snatch the lead for the first time in the fourth quarter’s final moments, clinching a hard-fought victory.
“You can’t make up for that,” Clark shared in a post.
This sentiment echoes her previous remarks on May 21, after the Pacers rallied from a 14-point deficit. That comeback came in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks, a game that ended in overtime. Halliburton’s last-second jumper forced that overtime, resulting in a 138-135 win for Indiana.
Clark praised the Pacers, stating, “Pacer is the greatest comeback team I’ve ever seen.”
In Game 1 of the Finals, Indiana overcame a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter, showcasing their resilience once again. They had initially struggled, committing 19 turnovers in the first half but turned things around, outscoring Oklahoma City 32-16 in the last ten minutes.
Pascal Siakam led the Pacers with 19 points, followed by Obi Toppin with 17, Miles Turner with 15, and both Halliburton and Andrew Nembhard scoring 14 apiece.
“I don’t know what else to say about that, but this group is really resilient and won’t give up until the final buzzer,” Halliburton said about the competitive spirit of the team.
The Thunder will look to even the series when they host the Pacers for Game 2 on Sunday night.
