Tech magnate Elon Musk recently suggested that he will outlive President Trump’s time in office, highlighting the stark contrast between their ages.
On Thursday, Musk took to the social media platform X, responding to right-wing activist Laura Rumer’s commentary. He criticized the GOP’s proposed legislation while also insinuating that he had a hand in Trump’s previous electoral success.
Rumer mentioned that lawmakers are curious about which side she should take in the ongoing feud between Trump and Musk, framing it as a battle between “the world’s most powerful man and the world’s wealthiest man.”
“Just a thought: Trump has 3.5 years left in his presidency, yet I’ve been around for over 40 years…” Musk remarked in a response.
The tension seemed to ease slightly when Musk replied with “true” to a post suggesting that reconciliation would be beneficial for the country. However, Trump later expressed to ABC News that he was open to dialogue with Musk, though he implied Musk should perhaps reach out first.
The relationship between Musk and Trump appeared strained following criticism from Musk regarding a substantial spending bill that Trump was pushing through Congress. This bill, if approved, would extend tax cuts, bolster border security, and cut funding for social welfare programs.
Musk, who has distanced himself from the administration lately, has vocally condemned the bill, labeling it as detrimental to national finances. His remarks on Thursday were particularly pointed, as he claimed that Trump wouldn’t have secured the 2024 election without his backing and even hinted at forming a separate political party. In one of his strongest criticisms, Musk referred to Trump as a convicted sex offender and suggested that his connections to financier Jeffrey Epstein were why more information about him wasn’t publicly available.
Trump has consistently denied any links to Epstein.
