Seattle’s PWHL Expansion Team Adds Star Power
Seattle’s new PWHL expansion team is making headlines with a series of exciting signings. On Friday, they announced that Alex Carpenter has joined the roster, signing a one-year deal with the team, marking a significant addition.
“I’m really looking forward to being a part of PWHL Seattle in my first season,” said Carpenter in a statement from the team. “Joining a city known for its dedicated sports fans is something I’m thrilled about. I’m eager to help build something special and hopefully bring a championship to Seattle.”
At 31, Carpenter had an impressive season last year, scoring 43 points in 50 games, after securing a spot with Marquee. She ranked third in the league for scoring, was the top player in power play points with 18, and was nominated for the Billy Junking MVP Awards.
“Alex is a fierce competitor who brings intensity every time she’s on the ice,” said Seattle GM Meghan Turner. “She’s an elite two-way player, regarded as one of the best globally for years, and she knows how to make an impact at both ends of the rink. Her drive to win is palpable.”
Carpenter was an excellent pick when the sirens decided not to protect her, allowing her to remain available during the draft period leading up to the expansion.
Seattle has the opportunity to sign another player before the deadline on Sunday, June 8th at 5 PM ET.
As a first-team All-Star and vital player for the US women’s national team, Carpenter will join Hillary Knight and Daniel Sedin, along with defender Kayla Burns, as part of Seattle’s first roster ahead of her inaugural season.
The expansion draft is set to take place the night after Seattle and Vancouver finalize their selections to complete a roster of 12 players.
