In a surprising turn, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s upcoming memoir, which describes the Democrats as “broken,” has garnered attention across major news outlets—except for MSNBC.
After announcing her switch to being a registered independent on Wednesday, there’s been notable silence from the left-leaning channel regarding her departure from the party.
Jean-Pierre, who served as the spokesperson for former President Joe Biden, has been promoting her memoir titled “Independence: Look inside the broken White House outside the party line.”
Set for release in October, the memoir distances her from the Democratic Party and paints a grim picture of her experiences in the Biden administration.
During her two-year tenure, she became notable as the first black and openly gay woman to hold the role. Her unexpected political shift and critique of the president she once defended have stirred reactions, particularly among Biden’s supporters.
Colleagues have not held back in their criticisms. Some have dismissed the book as a mere “grift,” while other frustrations reflect issues raised in anonymous reports by outlets like Politico and Axios.
One comment from within the administration suggested that “no one took her seriously in the building.”
This backlash seems to reinforce her book’s central theme—intense dysfunction within the Biden administration.
The media response has been rapid, at least on certain networks.
Fox News mentioned Jean-Pierre nearly 72 times over a two-day period, according to transcript data. In contrast, CNN brought her up 44 times, maintaining a closer relationship with the Biden administration.
However, MSNBC, where Jean-Pierre had previously been a contributor, appears to be avoiding the story altogether, which raises questions about the network’s editorial choices.
A media analyst commented that MSNBC’s persistent silence suggests the network is reluctant to cover political news that contradicts its previous narratives.
This situation has prompted calls for comment from both MSNBC and Jean-Pierre.
Before her White House role, Jean-Pierre frequently appeared on MSNBC, promoting Democratic viewpoints and criticizing Trump’s administration. Her visibility there likely helped elevate her to prominence within the Biden administration.
This is not the first instance of MSNBC sidestepping unsettling stories about the Biden administration. Earlier this year, they largely ignored a book revealing significant details about Biden’s cognitive decline, while CNN and Fox News provided extensive coverage.
Critics argue that this selective editorial stance reflects a broader hesitance to confront uncomfortable narratives about Biden’s presidency and the challenges of his administration.
This discomfort, they claim, manifests itself as silence.
