Deported Salvadoran Citizen Returns to U.S. Facing Charges
Court documents indicate that a Salvadoran man, deported during President Trump’s administration, is reentering the U.S. as a defendant. Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, 29, faces a sealed federal charge in Tennessee involving illegal activities related to the transportation of undocumented immigrants.
Abrego Garcia is alleged to have facilitated illegal immigration from Texas to other states, a part of a long-established organized operation. Authorities claim this network has been active for several years.
DHS officials have stated that “Abrego Garcia, a member of the deported gang, will never be on American streets again.”
Notably, the indictment, recently sealed, includes two felony counts. There are allegations that children were trafficked as part of this operation.
In a traffic stop back in 2022, bodycam footage from the Tennessee Highway Patrol captured Abrego Garcia transporting eight men, which raised suspicion. One officer remarked, “He’s carrying these people for money.” Troopers discovered $1,400 in cash during the stop and flagged Garcia in the National Crime Information Center, but ICE was called and did not respond.
This news emerges after controversy ignited in March regarding Abrego Garcia’s deportation from El Salvador, a move many left-leaning politicians labeled as unjust.
Despite claims from the Trump administration linking him to MS-13, Abrego Garcia’s lawyers are contesting these affiliations.
Reports suggest that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is in contact with the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, to arrange for Garcia’s custody in the U.S.
After his deportation, Abrego Garcia was sent to the notorious Cecot MegaPrison in El Salvador, even though a court order issued in 2019 temporarily prohibited his removal, citing fears of persecution.
The Department of Homeland Security has yet to comment on the matter.
