LA Mayor Fires Trump Officials Amid Immigration Controversy

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass dismissed several officials from the Trump administration on Friday, expressing her commitment to resisting the federal government’s stance on illegal immigration.

“We don’t support this,” Bass declared in a statement after federal immigration agents apprehended 44 individuals in raids across the city.

The Democratic mayor expressed her deep frustration, stating that her office is collaborating closely with organizations advocating for immigration rights.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller quickly responded to Bass’s remarks, asserting, “I’ve never said anything about this.”

Miller emphasized, “Federal law is the best and federal law will come into effect.”

In response to Bass’s comments, White House adviser Sebastian Gorka, referring to a Colorado suspect, asserted, “They are illegal. They are not ‘immigrants.’” He added that those who support such individuals are criminals as well, cautioning, “Are you ready to be treated as a criminal?”

Justice Department official Harmeet K. Dillon expressed disbelief at how many elected officials lack an understanding of fundamental federalism and immigration law.

The immigration operation in Los Angeles triggered protests at the site of the arrests, where at least one individual was detained for allegedly obstructing federal authorities.

The U.S. Attorney’s office stated that David Fuerta intentionally interfered with federal agents executing a legal warrant, leading to his arrest.

Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin condemned the city’s handling of the protests, highlighting the violent confrontations between protesters and federal agents.

Richard Grenell, a former special envoy under Trump, criticized Bass, claiming she undermines the rule of law and incites confusion in Los Angeles.

This ongoing situation reflects broader tensions between local and federal approaches to immigration enforcement.
