Commemoration of D-Day’s 81st Anniversary
In a live event from Normandy, France, “Fox & Friends” honored the 81st anniversary of D-Day while reflecting on both past sacrifices and future aspirations.
As the nation recognized the remarkable courage shown by World War II veterans, Pete Hegseth pointed out a rising wave of patriotism among younger Americans. He emphasized the notable increase in military recruitment numbers, particularly in the Army, which has seen a jump to 61,000 recruits in fiscal year 2025, a rise of over 6,000 from the previous year.
“It’s historic,” Hegseth remarked. “Of course, there’s a shift in morale. We can trace this back to the day Donald Trump was elected and when he took office.”
During the segment, Hegseth shared his excitement about the current spirit within the military, stating that it’s “incredible” and highlighting that this change in morale extends beyond just one branch. He noted the enthusiasm present in the Air Force, Navy, Marines, and even law enforcement, adding that there’s a strong desire to serve the country among young Americans. He mentioned, “We want you to be a warrior. We’re moving away from politically correct nonsense. We’re training and preparing, getting back to basics, and young Americans are stepping up.”
Recently, Hegseth participated in ceremonies for D-Day’s anniversary, alongside military officials and veterans. He kicked off the day with a physical training session with the 75th Ranger Regiment at Omaha Beach, reflecting on the bravery of those who landed there in 1944. “Those men, especially in the first wave, faced overwhelming odds, yet they charged forward for our freedom,” he said.
A few days ago, he also paid tribute to the sacrifices of the military at Arlington National Cemetery, where he met with determined World War II veterans decades later. He reflected on the contrast between the centenarian veterans and the younger Army Rangers he trained, stating, “The fight for freedom still flows through the veins of Americans.”
