Olivia Munn shares she didn't feel a strong bond with her daughter during surrogacy: 'Like an expecting father'

Olivia Munn Shares Her Surrogacy Experience

Olivia Munn recently opened up about her feelings during her pregnancy journey, describing it as feeling “like a pregnant father” leading up to the arrival of her daughter, May. She and her husband, John Mulany, welcomed their second child through surrogacy last year.

“People often say that dads don’t really bond until they see the baby,” the actress revealed in a cover story. “But, you know… I was closely involved with the process, so I felt a connection from the start.” Munn, 44, reflected on the unique situation, stating, “It was like, oh, what does it feel like to be in this position?”

She described the anticipation before May’s birth, saying there were moments of surprise and excitement, almost as if she were the one carrying the child. Despite mixed emotions around the surrogacy, both she and Mulany found the experience to be quite natural.

After marrying in July 2022, the couple began their journey toward parenthood and announced May’s birth in September 2022. Munn had previously faced a breast cancer diagnosis, which led her to pursue surrogacy.

Munn shared her gratitude towards her surrogate, noting the kindness and understanding she received during a challenging time. “When I first met my pregnant agent, I knew I had found someone truly special,” she mentioned, highlighting the grace with which the surrogate handled the situation.

Along with May, Munn and Mulany also have a son named Malcolm. The actress expressed her joy over May’s name, sharing that it means “plum” in Chinese. “I’m just so proud of my little plum, my little dragon,” she said with enthusiasm. “It’s as if my heart just exploded when she came into our lives.”
