Frightening Incident for Marlins Pitcher Ryan Weathers
Things took a scary turn for Marlins pitcher Ryan Weathers just ahead of Saturday’s game.
Before the first inning, Miami catcher Nick Fortes attempted a throw to second base, which accidentally struck Weathers in the head.
Weathers fell to the ground, and Fortes, from behind the plate, looked visibly distressed.
Medical staff quickly attended to Weathers after he remained on the ground, leading to a brief pause in the game prior to the first pitch.
After some time, the left-handed pitcher got up and walked around the infield, appearing dazed but okay.
Weathers ultimately continued in the game, giving up three earned runs over three innings, with a mix of walks and strikeouts.
Fortes ended the game going 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Before this incident, Weathers had posted an impressive 2.49 ERA with 22 strikeouts over 21 innings in his fourth start of the season.
On a different note, Miami’s ace, Sandy Alcantara, has been struggling early this season, with a high 7.89 ERA and allowing the most runs in the league with 50 across 12 starts.
Despite Alcantara’s performance, Marlins manager Clayton McCullough showed unwavering support for his two All-Stars.
“I’m still confident in Sandy, it’s coming,” McCullough stated. “Right now, it’s about getting his command back. It’s all going to click soon. The pitch location, I think, will come last, but it’s going to happen.”
