Israeli Forces Intercept Boat with Pro-Palestinian Activists
The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) stopped a boat named Madly carrying pro-Palestinian activists, including noted climate activist Greta Samberg, as it was about to dock in Gaza on Monday.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry released a video showing the activists on the boat while IDF soldiers distributed sandwiches to them.
Officials referred to the vessel as a “selfie yacht,” suggesting that its passengers were being used by Hamas for propaganda purposes.
The activists contended that Israeli forces were employing signal jamming technology against their boats, but this technology has become a standard part of life for many Israelis since Hamas initiated conflict on October 7th.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry mentioned that the boat carried minimal aid but highlighted that over 1,200 aid trucks have arrived in Gaza from Israel over the past two weeks. Additionally, they noted that the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation had provided 11 million meals to civilians in the region.
“There are appropriate ways to send aid to Gaza that don’t involve taking selfies on Instagram. Any small amount of aid on the yacht that isn’t consumed by the ‘celebrity’ will be funneled through real humanitarian channels,” the ministry remarked.
Activists landing in Gaza aimed to inspire other vessels to follow suit. They emphasized that this was not like previous incidents involving the Israeli Navy, citing the 2010 Mabimarumara passenger incident as an example where no weapons were present.
Samberg has shifted from her early passion for climate activism to align closely with groups perceived as anti-Semitic, seamlessly moving into radical anti-Israel actions.
The Israeli government stated that she and other activists would be repatriated to their respective home countries.
