Tom Homan Claims NBC News Released a 'Dishonest' Story About His Alleged Threat to Arrest Gavin Newsom

Tom Homan Accuses NBC News of Misreporting

Tom Homan has criticized NBC News for what he calls a fraudulent report that implied California Governor Gavin Newsom could face arrest for not cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In a Sunday interview with NBC, Homan reiterated that ICE operations in the Los Angeles area would continue. Reacting to questions posed by “Morning Joe” host Jonathan Lemia about the alleged possibility of Newsom’s arrest, Homan claimed the interview misrepresented his comments.

“I’m not buying it. The NBC reporter was quite dishonest. We had a 20-minute conversation, but they used a small clip that completely misrepresents my words,” Homan stated. He acknowledged the right to protest but added that crossing the line into violence against officers is unacceptable under federal law.

The unrest in Los Angeles came after ICE apprehended over 100 undocumented immigrants, including gang members and drug traffickers. Some anti-Trump demonstrators reacted by vandalizing property and throwing incendiary devices.

President Donald Trump had dispatched 2,000 National Guard members to Los Angeles, a move that received backlash from both Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

During his NBC interview, Homan clarified that while Newsom and Bass have not yet crossed any lines, they could face legal action if they obstruct federal immigration operations. “If they break the law, we will definitely seek prosecution,” he remarked. He emphasized, “I’ve never threatened to arrest Governor Newsom. That report is misleading; the entire 20-minute interview would show a different narrative.”

Lemia mentioned that NBC News was merely reporting what Homan had suggested regarding potential arrests for interfering with immigration enforcement. In response, Newsom challenged Homan, saying, “Come after me and arrest me. I care about my community and what these actions entail. We need to push back.”

At the time of writing, NBC News had not responded to requests for comment.
