Whoopi Goldberg Critiques Immigration Policies
On Monday’s episode of “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg expressed her views on the Trump administration’s approach to immigration, particularly the arrest and deportation of undocumented immigrants. She described these actions as “pure fascism.”
Goldberg drew a connection between the administration’s right to deport individuals whose visas had expired and the broader implications of enforcing immigration laws, suggesting that those seeking a better life should have a right to stay in the U.S. She questioned the nature of the policies in place, saying, “What is this? We’re about the rights of the nation. Is it really just pure fascism?”
Sunny Hostin, a law school graduate and fellow co-host, responded by indicating that there indeed were signs of fascism within those actions. Goldberg further elaborated that while Americans desire to remove “bad people,” it’s essential to recognize that many undocumented individuals have valid reasons for being in the country.
“This doesn’t really sound like America to me,” Goldberg stated. “We all want to get rid of the bad guys, sure, but we must remember that people come here for various reasons and often leave everything behind.” She emphasized the need to help those who are seeking assistance.
Goldberg pointed to recent actions by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles and criticized Trump’s travel ban affecting several countries, such as Afghanistan and Chad. She referenced a riot that erupted in response to the arrest of 44 illegal immigrants, where protests turned violent, leading to cars being set on fire and Molotov cocktails being thrown.
Among those arrested were individuals with serious criminal backgrounds, such as second-degree murder and assault. Reports indicated that the Department of Homeland Security identified these individuals as “the worst of the worst” among undocumented immigrants.
Additionally, an Egyptian national, Mohamed Sabri Soliman, was accused of using makeshift flamethrowers during a protest against a pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder, Colorado, in early June.
Tom Homan, a former ICE director, stated in an NBC News interview that immigration enforcement would persist across the U.S. He also responded to claims regarding his comments about California Governor Gavin Newsom made during an appearance on “Morning Joe.”
