Israel Shows October 7 Attack Video to Greta Thunberg 'Selfie Yacht' Guests

Israeli Forces Detain Yacht Bound for Gaza

On Monday, Israeli forces intercepted a yacht that was heading to Gaza. The crew included a group of pro-Hamas activists, notably Greta Sanberg, who is known for her climate activism. While in custody, they were shown distressing footage from the October 7 massacre.

The yacht, named Madlyn, was described by officials as a “selfie yacht” that aimed to convey a humanitarian message. The Israeli government spokesman, David Mensah, criticized this as a guise for their actual intentions, claiming it carried minimal supplies pretending to be part of a humanitarian effort. He mentioned that these supplies would be sent to Gaza through legitimate channels, not through publicity stunts.

Mensah was adamant: “There is a way to deliver aid to Gaza. It does not involve Instagram selfies.” He went on to express his views on the activists, saying that they were more focused on personal promotion rather than meaningful aid to those in need.

The detained crew comprised six French nationals, including Lima Hassan, a member of the European Parliament, along with citizens from Brazil, Spain, Turkey, and an Irish actor, Liam Cunningham, known for his role in Game of Thrones.

The vessel had ignored several warnings from Israeli authorities after departing from Sicily. It was last tracked just north of the Egyptian port before the Israel Navy intercepted it early in the morning. Despite opportunities to change course, the crew refused to comply.

Officials reiterated that the Gaza area remains an active conflict zone and has been used by Hamas for attacks. The Israeli Navy made attempts to communicate with the yacht but received no response, leading to its capture.

While awaiting further action, activists claimed they were being detained by Israeli forces and aired pre-recorded videos to gather support. However, the Israeli government made a point to showcase a light-hearted video of the detainees being served sandwiches, contrasting the activists’ portrayal of their situation.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz directed that the crew watch a video documenting Hamas’s violent acts from October 7, presumably to highlight the realities of the conflict. “It’s essential for those supporting Hamas to see what they are up against,” he stated.

Katz emphasized the Israeli government’s strong response to the yacht’s attempt to breach the blockade, referring to it dismissively as a “fleet of hatred.” Meanwhile, Francesca Albanese, a United Nations Special Rapporteur, expressed her support for future maritime missions to challenge the blockade and send aid to Gaza, underscoring that the mission isn’t over just because this journey ended.

The Turkish government condemned the interception, labeling it a breach of international law and reiterating its stance that Israel poses a threat to global maritime safety.
