Riley Gaines Reacts to Simone Biles’ Comments
During a recent radio interview, Riley Gaines expressed surprise at the public’s response to Simone Biles’ criticisms directed at her. The conversation has sparked a noticeable reaction in the Olympic community.
Gaines addressed comments made by former NCAA swimmers, specifically targeting officials who turned off comments on a post celebrating a softball team’s state championship that included transgender players. She noted that, despite facing backlash, Biles’ negative comments seemed to have little impact on her popularity.
“Looking at the comments sections on social media platforms—Instagram, Twitter, TikTok—Biles seems to be facing quite a bit of criticism, which I found concerning,” Gaines mentioned. “I expected to be bombarded with hate messages after that notification but that’s not really what happened.”
Gaines also mentioned Biles’ assertion that she was “really sick,” suggesting broader misunderstandings around the issue of transgender inclusion in sports. She believes Biles may not fully grasp the implications of her statements.
Pointing out recent instances in which transgender athletes have competed in women’s sports, Gaines highlighted concerns about fairness. “In states like Minnesota, California, and others, boys have taken spots and titles from hardworking girls. People keep saying it doesn’t occur, yet it clearly does,” she said.
Gaines’ perspective revealed a skepticism about the gradual acceptance of transgender athletes, noting a shift from denial that it happens, to acceptance with qualifiers. “It’s always a progression until the final phase where it’s just accepted,” she remarked.
In her podcast, “Gaines for Girls,” she expanded on her views regarding transgender athletes in women’s sports, asserting that these discussions are vital for future competition.
As of now, Biles has not publicly responded to Gaines’ comments since their original discussion.
