Mayor Eric Adams expressed strong disapproval of the ongoing riots against ICE in Los Angeles, cautioning New Yorkers against the idea of replicating such protests in their city.

During a press conference on Monday, alongside NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tish, he stated, “The escalation of protests in Los Angeles over the past few days is unacceptable, and any similar actions here will also not be tolerated.”

Both officials presented a united front, with Adams urging protesters to “choose peace and compassion over anger and retribution.”

He reassured New Yorkers, declaring that the city’s police force is well-equipped to handle any potential issues, particularly amid the societal divisions the city is currently facing.

Tish emphasized that the NYPD can maintain order without needing federal support, unlike the National Guard troops ordered by President Trump to assist in LA.

“Let me be clear: we will not tolerate violence, property damage, or any actions that obstruct access to buildings or impede traffic,” Adams affirmed.

He further stressed the importance of public safety, asserting their commitment to upholding that responsibility.

On the same day, a protest against ICE unfolded in the lobby of Trump Tower, where demonstrators called for the release of migrants detained in a prison in El Salvador.

Earlier in the Los Angeles protests, which began last Friday and continued through the weekend, thousands took to the streets in response to actions against ICE.

Trump’s order to send 2,000 National Guard members to aid in LA came after tensions escalated, with protesters reportedly setting vehicles on fire and hurling rocks and fireworks at law enforcement.

Moreover, an additional 700 active-duty Marines are poised to arrive at the protests, as confirmed by the Secretary of Defense.
