Country Singer Involved in Fatal Accident
Connor Smith, the 24-year-old country artist known for his song “I Hate Alabama,” was driving a pickup truck that struck and killed a 77-year-old woman in Nashville over the weekend.
The incident occurred while Smith was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Silverado, reportedly hitting Dorothy Dobbins as she crossed the street on Sunday.
Dobbins was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police, initial findings suggest that Smith was not at fault in terms of pedestrian right-of-way and did not exhibit signs of impairment.
An investigation is currently underway, but police have not filed any charges against Smith as of now.
Smith has not publicly commented on the event; however, his legal team stated that he was involved in an accident that tragically resulted in a loss of life.
His lawyer expressed that Smith’s thoughts are with Dobbins’ family during this difficult time and emphasized that he is cooperating fully with the investigation.
This tragic event coincided with the last day of CMA Fest, a significant country music festival in Nashville.
Smith has been signed to Big Machine Records’ Valory label since 2019 and released his debut album “Dove Go Too Ther” last year. He has previously opened for Luke Bryan on tour and was nominated for the New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards.
His single “Country in the Clouds” gained viral attention recently, particularly on TikTok, and one of his tracks features in the soundtrack for the movie “Twisters.”
On a personal note, Smith has been married to surfer Leah Thompson since April 2024, and he is currently touring with several live performances scheduled across the country this summer.
Interestingly, on the day of the accident, Smith shared a post on Instagram, showing him performing and captioned it “Hometown is different.”
