Oregon Teacher Arrested for Online Child Exploitation
A high school teacher in Oregon, Oscar Armando Ramirez, has been arrested following accusations of engaging in online sex crimes against a minor. Authorities reported that Ramirez, 36, was caught having sexually explicit conversations with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old girl while working at a local school. However, the person he was chatting with was actually an undercover police officer, part of a sting operation targeting online predators.
The Portland Police Department shared that the exchange lasted for four days, during which Ramirez discussed explicit topics and even expressed a desire to meet up with the individual—a meeting he planned for when the girl’s parents were away. He identified himself as a high school teacher during these discussions, prompting officials to inform the Gresham Barlow School District, which subsequently placed him on leave.
Ramirez was taken into custody outside his Portland home and faces three counts related to the sexual exploitation of minors online. He is currently held at the Multnomah County Detention Center.
Interestingly, the investigation has not uncovered any crimes involving students from his school or any other children, according to police. Ramirez has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday.
As of now, there has been no response from the Gresham-Barlow School District or the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office regarding the situation.
