Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Gigi Paris, Glenn Powell’s former girlfriend, opened up on the latest episode of the “Too Mand” podcast, revealing that she felt overwhelmed by rumors linking Powell to his co-star, Sidney Sweeney, from the film “Everyone Is You.”
She shared, “I had to make a choice regarding my career. I could pretend everything was fine and stay quiet, wondering about their connection. Or, I could assert myself and say, ‘I won’t stand for this, and I’m out.'” Ultimately, she chose the latter.
Paris and Powell, who is 36, ended their relationship around April 2023. This came after she noticed Sweeney, 27, becoming quite playful during filming. The romance rumors continued as the film’s promotion rolled out, leading up to its December 2023 release.
“I just wanted a bit of respect, especially in the public eye,” Paris explained. “I didn’t want to be made a fool of, especially after being together for over three years.”
She elaborated, “Work seemed to take priority for him. If that’s your main focus, then that’s your priority; it’s not me.”
Paris then criticized Powell for not denying the swirling rumors about him and Sweeney. “Where was he when he should have said, ‘No, I won’t betray my girlfriend’?” she questioned. “That needed to be said, but it never was.”
She suggested that the relationship buzz was beneficial for Powell and Sweeney’s public relations. “In the end, it seemed like all of this was just a PR strategy, possibly at the cost of our relationship,” she reflected.
Paris expressed confusion over whether any real romance existed between the two. “Who knows if they will actually sell the film or not? Honestly, part of me hoped they would end up together,” she noted.
Additionally, Paris mentioned feeling abandoned by Powell while he filmed “No One But You” in Australia. “He called to say the producer felt it was best if I didn’t visit. That was the moment I realized it was over,” she recounted. “I felt like I had lost the person I loved.”
The representatives for both Powell and Sweeney were contacted for their comments.
Sweeney and Powell have confirmed that they used the romance rumors to promote “No One But You,” with one remarking, “Sometimes you have to lean into that for audience interest, and it worked out well.”
A year prior, Sweeney mentioned in an interview, “This is a rom-com, which is what audiences crave! We really don’t mind—we’re having a blast working together.”
Romance rumors resurfaced in March when Sweeney attended Powell’s sister Leslie’s wedding in Texas, especially after reports surfaced that Sweeney had called off her engagement to her fiancé, Jonathan Davino, who is 41.
It was shortly confirmed that the engagement was indeed off, with an insider stating that “she’s not ready to settle down.”
Last month, Sweeney reflected on her single status, saying, “I’m learning a lot about myself and enjoying more time with friends.”
Meanwhile, Powell played coy when asked about Sweeney’s attendance at the wedding. He laughed, “Timing is everything, and it clearly was a fun time for both Leslie and Sid!”
