Parents Call for Investigation into YMCA Gender Policies
A group of parents is asking the Trump administration to look into what they describe as “illegal gender-based discrimination” within YMCA programs and policies.
Male, the executive director of American Parents Coalition, stated that supporting young girls at YMCA while allowing others to present as different genders goes against federal civil rights law and the concept of gender equality. The parents sent a letter to key officials, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Secretary of Health and Human Services, expressing their concerns.
“It’s morally wrong and legally unacceptable,” he added in the letter sent Tuesday.
The letter emphasizes that the YMCA’s approach is a breach of Title IX, which prohibits discrimination based on gender for entities that receive federal funds. The YMCA reportedly receives substantial financial support from the government, raising questions about compliance with this law.
According to the letter, the YMCA’s policies potentially violate Title IX by allowing biological men to use spaces designated for women, which they argue undermines gender equality principles. It also highlighted recent incidents at various YMCA locations where women were made to share facilities with men, prompting concern among parents.
In one instance in Kansas City, a mother reported a troubling encounter when a biological male allegedly exposed himself to her young daughter. Another case discussed involved a transgender woman changing in the women’s locker room at a California YMCA, raising alarms among patrons.
The letter questions the YMCA’s commitment to transparency, noting recent changes or removals of web pages related to their gender policies. “It seems the YMCA is shielding its policies from public scrutiny,” it stated.
The parents’ coalition also referenced an executive order from Trump that prohibits the use of federal funds to promote gender ideology, suggesting this order should apply to the YMCA’s practices.
The group hopes for a thorough investigation and accountability regarding what they see as potentially unlawful gender policies affecting their children and community.
