End of an Era for LSU Stars

All good things must eventually wrap up.

Angel Reese and Flau’jae Johnson clinched the national championship for LSU just two years back. However, Johnson pointedly remarked, “We’re not friends,” during an appearance on Monday’s Breakfast Club.

This drama unfolded as LSU aimed to defend their title in the 2023-24 season. Reese’s mother, Angel Webb Reese, took to X to address the situation.

In response, Johnson’s mother, Kia Brooks, chimed in with some criticism: “When your daughter gets a GPA below 2.0, you definitely notice the grammar mistakes.”

It seems the relationship between the star players has grown even more strained.

Johnson stated in a recent interview, “There was a lot of media attention, and some locker room issues, you know?” She noted that some things should just stay behind the scenes. “But these things happen. They do,” she added.

By September 2024, both acknowledged the cooling of their friendship—without any harsh feelings, thankfully.

“I still support Flau’jae. We’re not as close as we were,” Reese expressed. “There’s no hard feelings or anything. I wish her all the best and will always support her.”

Johnson echoed that sentiment, affirming that while they aren’t as tight anymore, she still supports Reese wholeheartedly. “I was proud of her. [WNBA] Break the record.”

Once celebrated as the “best” duo at LSU, the two have now charted different paths: Reese shines with the Chicago Sky, while Johnson steps into her fourth season with LSU.

Whether it’s family tensions or something more, the fact remains they achieved greatness together at LSU.

“The bond we formed, the championships we won together, that can never be taken away,” Johnson commented. “Sometimes things don’t go as you’d like, but you have to grow from it.”

“I’m rooting for her in everything, especially in the WNBA,” Johnson remarked. “I’m really proud of her.”
