Fognini and Moutet Face Off in Tense Match at Stuttgart Open

On Tuesday, two of tennis’s most passionate competitors clashed, and the aftermath was far from pleasant.

The 38-year-old Italian player, Fabio Fognini, faced off against 26-year-old Frenchman Corentin Moutet at the Stuttgart Open.

As they exchanged waves post-match, things seemed, well, okay at first.

After shaking hands, Fognini, speaking in French, urged Moutet to “Look at me, look at me!”

However, Moutet largely brushed off Fognini’s initial tension, which only escalated quickly.

In a heated moment, Fognini snapped, calling Moutet a “little pig” and suggesting he was “part of s-t!”

Moutet maintained his composure, shaking the referee’s hand before soaking in the applause from the Stuttgart crowd.

This isn’t Moutet’s first run-in—earlier this year, he found himself in a similarly tense situation with Alexander Bublik, requiring referee intervention as well.

Interestingly, Moutet’s once again caught in the middle of tensions that seem to arise around him. After a match, he was quoted as saying he wasn’t ready when Bublik challenged him, responding with an indifferent, “I don’t give a—t!”

Later, Bublik pushed for an altercation, suggesting they step outside to settle their differences.

While Moutet seemed to take all this in stride, his ability to keep calm could hint at a knack for provoking rivals in ways the public might not fully understand.

Following his victory over Fognini, Moutet is set to face the tournament’s top seed, Alexander Zverev, on Thursday.

For Fognini, the loss clearly stung, especially since he entered the tournament with a wild card invitation—a tough blow considering his ranking as a former world number nine.
