For fans of Our Last, the news we anticipated has now been confirmed. Abby, portrayed by Caitlyn Dever, will take center stage in Season 3.
During the screening for Season 2 on Monday night, which, by the way, did exceptionally well in terms of ratings—a bit more than what was expected in Season 1—creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin were present alongside cast members including Bella Ramsey, Isabella Mercedo, Gabriel Luna, Young Magino, and Dever, who has been busy with other projects recently.
In a casual Q&A that featured stars like Rob McElhenney, the discussion revolved around staying authentic to the original material, which included the early demise of Joel, played by Pedro Pascal. In the source game, Abby is responsible for Joel’s death, and the narrative subsequently shifts back to her viewpoint.
“We made that decision for the story’s integrity, and honestly, it’s still a bit surreal that the series is following this path,” Druckmann remarked. “So now that Season 2 has wrapped, guess what? Season 3 will feature—spoiler alert—Caitlyn.”
Dever put on an act of surprise when the creators revealed what, to be honest, many fans already suspected. The audience shared a laugh, making the moment light-hearted.
McElhenney joked, “Katelyn, have you closed the deal yet? You just gained a ton of leverage.” It’s clear that the connection between the game and the show has fans speculating Season 3 would focus on Abby. Dever’s character tends to stir some controversy, but it seems the show’s direction might align more closely with the original narrative, even though HBO might prefer a less divisive storyline.
Druckmann, who created the video game as well, expressed, “When we began this adaptation, we really doubted they would allow such bold choices, but they’ve recognized the uniqueness of the story.”
