Tribute to Brian Wilson by The Beach Boys

The Beach Boys honored co-founder Brian Wilson on Wednesday following the announcement of his death by his family.

“Today, we mourn the loss of geniuses. We grieve the passing of our cousins, friends, and partners who shared in a beautiful musical journey,” the band shared on their official Instagram account. “Brian Wilson was more than just part of our group; he was the essence of our music. The melodies he envisioned and the feelings he infused into every note transformed music as we know it.”

Wilson died at the age of 82, though the cause of his death remains unknown.

“His unmatched talent and distinctive spirit have provided a soundtrack for countless lives, including our own,” the post continued. “Together, we offered the world an American dream filled with optimism, joy, and freedom—music that uplifted people’s spirits and made them believe in endless possibilities.”

Mike Love, another co-founder and Wilson’s cousin, shared a video montage of their iconic hits over the years. “When we first harmonized together as children in my living room, I sensed he was destined for something truly special,” Love remarked alongside the video. “His musical gifts were unparalleled. The melodies he dreamed up, the emotions he expressed, reshaped the music landscape forever.”

Love concluded his heartfelt message saying, “Brian, as you once asked, ‘Don’t you think we should get older?’ Now you’re timeless, at peace, and enveloped by the heavenly music you helped create. May your wings soar in effortless flight.”

Rhythm guitarist Al Jardine also took to Instagram to remember his bandmate. “Brian Wilson, you were a friend, a classmate, and a spiritual brother,” Jardine wrote. “I feel fortunate to have shared life with you. It’s comforting to know you will be reunited with Carl and Dennis, harmonizing once more. You were a gentle giant who always brought laughter, and we will celebrate your music forever. I truly miss you.”

The Beach Boys formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, California, founded by brothers Brian, Carl, and Dennis Wilson, along with their cousin Love and school friend Jardine.

In 1964, Wilson stepped away from touring after experiencing a panic attack during a flight to Houston. Nevertheless, he significantly contributed to classics like “Good Vibrations,” “Don’t Worry Baby,” and “God Only Knows.”

He remained part of the band off and on for decades, releasing his first solo album in 1988.

Wilson fathered seven children, including Carney and Wendy, who found success in the Grammy-nominated pop group Wilson Phillips.

“I struggle to find words for this sadness,” his daughter Carney shared on Instagram. “My father was the very essence of my being. He will be remembered by millions forever. I am grateful to have had such a profound connection with him.”
