ICE Enforcement Operation in Omaha

ICE has conducted a significant raid at a meatpacking facility in Omaha, resulting in the arrest of over 70 individuals for immigration violations. This operation is noted to be the largest workplace enforcement action in Nebraska’s history.

According to ICE, some of those arrested had outstanding local warrants, previous DUI convictions, or had been deported before. Many are facing allegations related to fraud and misuse of various legal documents.

On June 10th, ICE agents and their federal partners encountered resistance while executing a federal search warrant at Glen Valley Foods, where there was no legal authorization for employment.

This operation marks the largest detention of illegal immigrants in Nebraska since the current presidential administration took office, focusing on enhancing immigration enforcement and border security.

“Yesterday, individuals from Honduras attacked federal agents. It’s crucial to protect American citizens from identity fraud,” ICE stated. “Let’s clarify: these aren’t just people lacking legal status; they’ve also attacked law enforcement while fulfilling their duty to serve the community.” Over 70 individuals were detained. Some had active warrants, prior DUI convictions, and faced additional charges including resisting arrest and identity fraud.

“Our agents and officers risk their lives daily to protect Americans. They don’t seek recognition or support,” the agency emphasized. “The harsh rhetoric surrounding this issue not only undermines their sacrifices but also incites a dangerous environment where law enforcement feels threatened.”

Gary Lower, the owner of Glen Valley Foods, expressed his distress regarding the events, noting that he utilizes the government’s e-verify system for hiring. He mentioned in response to inquiries, “I felt very upset; we followed e-verify guidelines and are quite shocked by the outcome.”

Lower explained, “We did everything we could to ensure we were in compliance.” E-verify, established in the late 1990s, is a system under the Department of Homeland Security that allows employers to verify the legality of their prospective employees’ work status in the U.S.

The Trump administration continues its commitment to stricter immigration enforcement policies.
