PJ Tucker shares his thoughts on retirement

The second oldest player in the NBA isn’t ready to hang up his sneakers just yet.

PJ Tucker, 40, suited up for only three games with the Knicks last season. With a career spanning 14 seasons across 10 teams, he still hopes to continue playing into 2025.

“Let’s set the record straight; in this day and age, we often don’t fact-check and just share what we hear from questionable sources,” he said, during a recent vacation. “I never said I was retiring. I’m 40, feeling great, and fully committed to my career… Whoop!!! Let’s keep this going!”

Tucker inked a two-year deal with the Knicks, which includes options for the 2025-26 season. There was some controversy surrounding his previous stint with the Clippers, where he faced limited playing time during the 2023-24 season.

Last season, he found himself traded three times in just five days. After his time with the Clippers, he quickly signed a 10-day contract with the Knicks.

Tucker’s presence in the locker room has been commendable, earning him a two-year contract. He enjoyed a strong rapport with former coach Tom Thibodeau, who consistently labeled him as a “veteran leader.”

Last season, he participated in three regular season games and one playoff matchup with the Knicks.

Now, with Thibodeau gone and the team seeking a new coach, it’s uncertain where Tucker will fit into the Knicks’ future plans.

As it stands, the only NBA player older than Tucker is LeBron James, at 40 years and 163 days, with Chris Paul closely behind him at 40 years and 37 days.
