Mark Cuban says Bluesky's absence of diverse opinions is pushing users back to X.

Mark Cuban expressed concern that Bluesky is fostering an environment filled with “growing rudeness and more hatred.” He pointed out that the “lack of diversity in thought” on the platform is driving users back to Elon Musk’s X, which was formerly known as Twitter.

Cuban, a prominent tech entrepreneur, was initially a strong supporter of Bluesky. However, he now perceives that its predominantly left-leaning audience has turned into a hostile echo chamber where differing opinions are met with anger. He remarked on this issue in a recent post.

In his words, “the lack of diversity in thinking here is actually used.” He reflected on how discussions about politics and news, once vibrant, have dwindled. Cuban seemed frustrated that this evolution has taken place.

The billionaire, known for his tenure as owner of the Dallas Mavericks and as an investor on the reality show “Shark Tank,” pointed to an opinion piece in The Washington Post that claims the platform’s left-leaning demographics fuel political silos. He agreed with the piece’s critique.

Cuban highlighted the advanced moderation tools available on Bluesky, advising users to block content they do not want to see if they find it bothersome.

Although he supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, he didn’t contribute financially to her campaign. He joined Bluesky in mid-2024, posting nearly 2,000 times since. His first post—which expressed a hopeful tone—now feels a bit out of place given his current disappointment.

He noted, “Even small disagreements are met with significant hostility.” Cuban elaborated that even if one mostly agrees with the opinions expressed, a single point of contention can result in being called extreme names.

According to Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index, Cuban’s net worth is around $8.35 billion. Some Bluesky users reacted negatively to his criticisms, using harsh and often profane language.

In response to Cuban’s remarks, one user sarcastically suggested he should stop his “crocodile tears.” Another stated that if they had his wealth, they’d likely be less vocal in their complaints, while a third simply resorted to crude insults.

Despite this backlash, Cuban reiterated his concern that the discourse on Bluesky might push users toward X, citing the platform’s increasingly insular nature.

Bluesky launched as an alternative social media site and saw rapid growth after Musk’s endorsement of Donald Trump’s reelection bid in late 2024, which pushed many liberal users away from X in search of a more politically agreeable environment.

The Pew Research Center reported that Bluesky’s user base expanded from about 10 million to over 30 million between November 2024 and May 2025, with many of its influencers leaning left in their political views.

In a podcast interview, Bluesky CEO Jay Graber acknowledged this politically motivated migration, noting that users are seeking new communities. She observed that many are trying to escape certain aspects of their previous social media experiences.

For Cuban, however, the current community on Bluesky may be hindering open discussion. He worries that it is transforming into an exclusive echo chamber.

The platform has been asked for comments regarding these issues.
