Kristi Noem responds to 'utterly unacceptable' incident involving Democratic senator

Homeland Security Press Conference Disrupted by Senator

During a press conference aimed at discussing the federal government’s efforts to restore order in Los Angeles, Homeland Security Secretary Krista Noem found herself facing an unexpected disruption. This occurred when Senator Alex Padilla, a California Democrat, interrupted her remarks, stepping into a charged situation referred to as “Political Theatre.”

Padilla, who seemed to come forward aggressively, was escorted out of the room after raising his voice. It was noted that he did not indicate he was a senator nor was he wearing the required Senate security pin, according to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson.

Although the two later met privately and spoke for about 15 minutes, Padilla suggested to the media that he was “forced to the ground” during the incident. In response, Noem deemed his comments “absolutely ridiculous” and labeled his behavior as “completely inappropriate.”

She recounted, “This guy rushes into the room and storms toward the podium, interrupting my opening statement to shout questions. People tried to prevent him from disrupting the press conference, but he ignored them.” Noem expressed that such actions were unacceptable.

Following Padilla’s removal, FBI officials began handcuffing individuals in the hallways. DHS also stated that Padilla had been warned multiple times but failed to follow the officers’ directives. A DHS spokesperson remarked that actions taken by the officers were warranted given the situation.

Noem mentioned that after their private discussion, things seemed to be fine between them, though she speculated that Padilla might have intentionally sought to create a scene, especially considering his remarks afterward.

She further commented, “If this is how this administration engages with senators who ask questions, it’s concerning to think about how they are treating workers in Los Angeles and throughout California.”

Expressing frustration with the political climate, Noem called for her opponents to “get over themselves” and support law enforcement. She noted, “I think the American people are simply worn out by this behavior. They just want transparency and clarity.”
