As the U.S. Army marks its 250th anniversary this Saturday, it’s anticipated that a massive gathering of Americans will converge in the capital for an extensive flag-day military parade authorized by former President Donald Trump.

During a speech in the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, “We’re going to celebrate our country for a change.”

Here’s what you need to know if you plan to take part in this historic parade.

When is the parade?

The Grand Military Parade to celebrate the Army’s 250th anniversary is scheduled for Saturday, June 14th at 6:30 PM.

This occasion is particularly special as it marks a year older than the nation itself, coinciding with both Flag Day and Trump’s 79th birthday.

What is the parade route?

The planned route, according to the issued parade map, will take place along the National Mall on Constitutional Avenue NW, extending from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.

The procession starts near the Lincoln Memorial on 23rd Avenue and concludes at the Washington Monument on 15th Street.

Where can I see the parade?

Spectators can view the parade along Northwest Constitution or from the site of the Washington Monument.

How’s the weather looking?

It looks like rainy weather is expected on Saturday morning, with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temperatures are projected to be in the 80s.

Who will participate?

Approximately 6,600 soldiers in uniforms representing various historical periods of the U.S., along with modern uniforms, will participate. The parade will feature around 150 Army vehicles, including Abrams tanks, and 50 aircraft, such as Black Hawks.

There will also be elevated roads and parachute jumps highlighting the event.

Which items are prohibited?

The Metropolitan Police Department in D.C. has a detailed list of prohibited items, which you can find on their official site.

What road closures should be noted?

Several major roads around the National Mall, including Constitutional Avenue NW, Virginia Avenue, Rock Creek Parkway, Independence Avenue, and the Arlington Memorial Bridge, will be closed.

A comprehensive map of these road closures is available online. Additionally, the northwest entrance to the Smithsonian Metro station will be shut, while the southwest entrance to the Independence Avenue station will remain open.

What other festivities are planned?

At the National Mall, there will be an Army Birthday Festival between 7th and 14th Avenues, with access from 7th Avenue.

Following the parade, a concert is set for the oval area in front of the White House, culminating in a fireworks display.

Are there expected protests?

A considerable number of protesters are expected in Washington this weekend, with plans for demonstrations against various issues. Attendees, both locals and visitors, might encounter the protest against what some are calling “garbage fascism,” along with a “fair march” in downtown.

Trump commented that violent protesters would be met with a strong response.
