Update on Players’ Availability for Upcoming Game
After some time off, I’m hoping to feel back to normal soon, particularly by Saturday.
Both Caitlyn Clark and Sophie Cunningham were on the practice court Friday, and coach Stephanie White expressed optimism about their readiness to compete unless something unexpected happens.
“Today, I observed improvements in her movement and balance compared to yesterday. She seems to be regaining her rhythm and timing,” White noted about Clark. “As long as she doesn’t take a step back, she should be good to go.”
Interestingly, Clark’s last game before her break was on May 24, where she sustained a quad injury. This kept her out for five games, during which Indiana recorded a 2-3 record.
On the other hand, Cunningham dealt with ankle issues during a game against the Sun, which had previously begun in preseason. She missed three games but is expected to make her return on Saturday.
“I believe she’s ready to come back as well,” White said. “Sophie appeared to perform well, her timing looked solid. It was crucial for her to find her rhythm, and she seemed to manage direction changes well. Overall, I thought she was impressive.”
The return of Clark and Cunningham signals the end of Ahri MacDonald’s brief stint in Indiana. MacDonald signed a temporary contract and played three games, averaging 11 points per game. Unfortunately, once Indiana was able to utilize their full roster, she had to be let go.
“She’s going to find her place,” White commented. “Though it’s not a topic for now, she was incredibly professional throughout. She’s tough, and she will definitely be missed.”
Despite the return of both players, Indiana will be short-handed on Saturday. Dewanna Bonner was absent from practice due to personal matters.
“I think she’s managing the situation as best as possible,” White said. “We’ll continue to support her and allow her the time she needs. I don’t anticipate her being available tomorrow against the Liberty. Right now, it’s about giving her the support she requires, taking it day by day.”
Indiana still has a chance to reach the Commissioner Cup final, but they’ll need to overcome their first loss of the season. New York currently stands at a perfect 9-0, winning by an average of 19 points.
In their last encounter, Indiana came incredibly close to handing New York their first defeat, falling just short with a score of 90-88.
