MLB Criticizes ‘Hypocrisy’ Towards Christian Players

Kayleigh McEnany has called out Major League Baseball for what she perceives as hypocrisy. She highlighted that Christian players are being singled out, particularly mentioning San Francisco Giants players who received warnings for inscribing Bible verses on their hats. This stood in stark contrast to the displays by drag queens at Dodgers games and the presence of the BLM logo on the pitcher’s mound. Former MLB catcher Raffy Lopez will join the conversation to show support for players who wish to express their faith openly.

Yesterday was quite a rollercoaster. The Chicago Cubs faced off against the Toronto Blue Jays, and, surprisingly, the Cubs lost despite having a solid five-point lead early on. It’s frustrating how quickly things can shift in baseball. Looking ahead, hopefully, the Cleveland Guardians can avoid a similar fate when they take on the Houston Astros this Sunday.

Currently, the Guardians sit atop the American League Central Division. I often find myself discussing how teams like the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers continuously manage to stay competitive despite not having star-studded rosters. I think it’s easy to overlook the Guardians, who always seem to field a team that can compete. They have a superstar in Jose Ramirez, though, ironically, he doesn’t get nearly the spotlight that other top players do, primarily because he’s playing in Cleveland. The encouraging news is that, even if he’s not hitting his peak this year, the team continues to win.

Slade Cecconi is set to take the mound for Cleveland. One reason the Guardians are consistently successful is their ability to nurture talented pitchers, though Cecconi hasn’t quite hit his stride yet. His current record of 3-5 includes a 4.60 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. Some of these numbers might be a bit misleading, as he has had more road starts than home. Interestingly, his ERA is actually higher on the road. Still, he has shown improvement, allowing three runs or fewer in his last eight starts, even if he hasn’t managed to pitch six innings in most of them. The fact that he limited opponents to just two runs or fewer in the last three games is a positive sign.

The Astros, conversely, have shown resilience regardless of player losses. They had a controversial past with a major scandal that contributed to their World Series victory, yet they managed to keep a strong lineup. However, they currently find themselves struggling at 36-42. Still, Houston fans can hold out hope as they’re not too far behind in the division race.

For the Astros to turn things around, they will need solid performances from their pitchers. If they were to combine their offensive strength with the Guardians’ pitching capabilities, it could lead to a powerful World Series contender—but that’s a bit of wishful thinking for now. Today, Kaiwei Teng is expected to step in as a starter, though he’s faced challenges this season, holding an ERA of 4.31 and a WHIP of 1.34. His recent performances haven’t been particularly strong, having given up 14 earned runs in just over 12 innings this month.

A concern for the Guardians lies in their past encounters with Astros hitters. They’ve faced Cecconi before, who has allowed 12 hits in 36 at-bats against them. Isaac Paredes stands out a bit with a 3-for-6 record, including a home run, which is somewhat notable although not overwhelming. The Guardians also may be somewhat unfamiliar with Teng, adding an element of unpredictability to the matchup.

This game has its complexities. Given Teng’s tendency to allow runs, a total exceeding 8.5 seems reasonable. Yet, the Guardians’ offense isn’t exactly their strong suit. Based on Cecconi’s recent form, I think it’s likely they could pull off a win. It’s a bit confusing that I can get good odds on it, but I’m definitely inclined to go with Cleveland on the money line.
