Mya Lesnar Claims NCAA Shot Championship Title
Mya Lesnar, the daughter of UFC and WWE superstar Brock Lesnar, has secured her spot as a national champion.
During the NCAA Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, the Colorado senior achieved a remarkable feat by winning the NCAA Shot Championship with her very first throw, reaching a distance of 19.01 meters (62 feet and 4½ inches).
This triumph adds to an already impressive college career, highlighted by her earlier win at the 2024 Indoor Shot Putt National Championship.
Ranked as one of the top outdoor throwers in the nation, Mya entered the national championship after defeating Illinois’ Abria Smith.
This title marks Colorado’s first outdoor national championship since 2005, when Loree Smith claimed victory in the Hammer Throw.
Mya is unique in that she is the only woman to achieve the 19-meter mark all season, though the throw that won her the title wasn’t her personal best.
Interestingly, during her final dual meet of the college season, she recorded a distance of 19.60 meters, a mark that would have secured her a bronze medal at the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Perhaps intriguingly, I heard that she drew some pre-competitive motivation from Eric Stonestreet, known for his role on “Modern Family.”
With this second national title, Mya now surpasses her father’s NCAA accolades, as Brock Lesnar won an NCAA heavyweight wrestling title in Minnesota back in 2000.
Brock was there to witness Mya’s significant win, which is surely a proud moment for him. While the paths ahead for Mya remain to be seen, it seems like she has the potential to represent the U.S. in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
