Mya Lesnar Claims NCAA Division I Women’s Shot Put Title
Mya Lesnar, the daughter of former UFC champion and WWE star Brock Lesnar, celebrated a significant milestone on Friday by winning the NCAA Division I Women’s Shot Put Championship. This achievement adds to her already impressive track record as she clinched her first outdoor title, having previously won the indoor title in the 2023-24 season.
This season, despite a fourth-place finish at the Nationals, Lesnar previously secured the Mountain West Championship. However, she approached the outdoor season with renewed determination.
Her initial throw reached 19.01 meters (62 feet, 4.5 inches), and notably, no other competitor exceeded the 62-foot mark throughout the tournament. “It was pretty cool. Obviously, that kind of throw doesn’t happen very often,” Lesnar remarked after her victory, expressing satisfaction in starting the competition strong with her first throw.
Earlier this season, she achieved a personal best of 19.60 meters (64’3.75″), which stands as the seventh-longest throw for a woman this year. Over the past three years, she has been honored on both the indoor and outdoor All Mountain West teams and also snagged the conference weight throw title during the 2023-24 indoor season.
Lesnar’s journey includes mixed emotions. “A lot of emotions. A lot of effort. A lot of dedication. And just do it without rethinking,” she reflected, feeling proud of her accomplishment.
Interestingly, Brock Lesnar also made headlines in his athletic career, winning a national championship in wrestling back in 2000 at the University of Minnesota before transitioning to a successful career in wrestling and MMA.
