Concerns Over Migrant Attacks Expressed by Mexican President
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has voiced her government’s disapproval of the ongoing attacks on migrants, stating that these assaults are aimed at “honest” individuals.
She made these remarks during a press conference where she reportedly met with Secretary of State Christopher Landau. They held a brief discussion surrounding the current state of relations between Mexico and the United States.
Sheinbaum emphasized her strong opposition to the immigration attacks happening in the U.S., saying, “We discussed the need to protect our immigrant brothers and sisters.” She pointed out her disagreement with the use of raids to detain honest people, stressing that such actions could harm not just individuals but the U.S. economy as well.
She mentioned that the meeting was held out of courtesy, as Landau was introducing himself in his new capacity under the Trump administration, and they talked about enhancing ties between the two nations.
Her comments came shortly after U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called her out for comments related to protests occurring in California and other states. Noem had criticized Sheinbaum, accusing her rhetoric of fostering violent protests.
In response, Sheinbaum took to social media, asserting that she was misunderstood and denounced all acts of violence.
