Backlash Over CBS News Ad for Protest Merchandise
CBS News is facing criticism after sharing what seems to be a promotional piece for a product related to X’s “No Kings Day” protest. This occurred on a Friday when many users expressed discontent with what they perceive as the outlet endorsing anti-Trump merchandise ahead of significant political protests.
On Saturday, numerous individuals are expected to protest in cities across the United States, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the Army and also marking Flag Day, which commemorates the US flag’s adoption on June 14, 1777.
Demonstrators are rallying under the slogan “No Kings,” framing it as a day of rebellion against President Trump and his administration. Some are even urging him to step down.
Key Points on Today’s Anti-Trump Rally
J. Michael Waller, a security analyst, criticized CBS News for promoting what he called “radical products” just before national protests. Another user from X, who writes for a conservative outlet, mocked the situation, calling it “free ads for leftist protest products made in China.”
Molly Hemingway, an editor for Federalist and a Fox News contributor, took issue with CBS News for “not pretending to be journalism anymore” and viewed it as a tool for Democratic propaganda. One user also raised concerns over whether CBS’s promotion of political products breaches Federal Communications Commission guidelines, labeling the action as unethical.
This controversy isn’t the only issue CBS News is dealing with. In May, the network’s president and CEO, Wendy McMahon, announced her resignation following challenges within the company. This came after the departure of veteran producer Bill Owens, who left amid concerns about losing journalistic independence due to ongoing legal challenges involving Trump.
Concerns Raised by ’60 Minutes’ Correspondent
On another note, ’60 Minutes’ correspondent Scott Perry spoke about the implications of President Trump’s lawsuit against CBS and its parent company. He voiced that a settlement could be damaging for the network. Perry remarked that such an arrangement could hurt both CBS and its parent company, Paramount.
Trump has been pursuing legal action against CBS News’ parent company, Paramount Global, following a “60 Minutes” interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris. His legal team is seeking at least $25 million and an apology, with sources indicating that Trump declined a $15 million settlement offer.
Fox News Digital reached out to CBS News for comments regarding the promotion of the “No Kings Day” products.
