Arizona Speaker Carter Supports Balanced Budget

Arizona House Speaker Pro Tem, Carter (R), expressed his support on Saturday for the recent passage of a balanced budget through the state legislature.

Late Friday night, Arizona House Republicans approved a budget totaling $17.3 billion.

Carter mentioned in a discussion with a host from Breitbart News that the goal is to provide essential services for residents while minimizing unnecessary spending.

“We’re making a concerted effort to uphold budgetary conservatism in Arizona. This involves new spending limitations, cuts to certain government sectors, and offering tax relief. It’s crucial to discern which government areas need funding and which do not,” he stated.

He expressed pride in the achievements related to these initiatives.

Additionally, he highlighted that the new budget includes provisions to eliminate property taxes for 100% disabled veterans, who he believes have already made significant sacrifices through their service.

The budget will also double the adoption tax credit, aligned with pro-life initiatives, and aims to increase funding for public safety, including police departments and highway patrols.

On the other hand, Governor Katie Hobbs (D-Az) has declared that this budget is “dead on arrival.” She remarked, “From the very beginning of the budget discussions, I sought to collaborate with leaders from both parties to establish a bipartisan and responsible budget. This isn’t the reckless and partisan plan the House Republicans are pushing.”

Carter, however, contended that it is the legislature’s responsibility to develop a budget that serves the people of Arizona.

He asserted, “It’s the citizens who can’t draft the budget themselves. They rely on their elected representatives in the House and Senate to do so, and the Governor has the option to support or reject it.”
