Paris Jackson defends herself against critics for scheduling an event on her father's death anniversary

Paris Jackson responded sarcastically to critics upset over her performance date, which coincides with the anniversary of her father, Michael Jackson’s death.

“So people are mad again,” she said in a series of Instagram Stories shared on Friday. “One of the tour dates happens to be June 25th, when I’m touring with Incubus and the Manchester Orchestra.”

On June 25, the artists will perform at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, a date that marks the 16th anniversary of her father’s passing. The pop legend died on June 25, 2009 at 50 years old, following a heart attack due to a drug overdose.

She explained that, as one of the opening acts, she doesn’t have control over the schedule. “What I have to explain is, when you’re first of three and not headlining, you don’t pick the time or city,” she added. The headliner makes those decisions.

Paris also mentioned that, given her position on the tour, she wouldn’t receive special treatment or luxury accommodations. “The first three acts don’t even get a tour bus. I probably just have a sprinter van. I’ve done this before with a band, but this time, I’m solo.”

It’s just her, her acoustic guitar, and her fiancé, who’s also her sound guy. “It’s me, my acoustic guitar, and my sound guy, my fiancé,” she noted, referring to Justin Long.

At 27, she added that her participation doesn’t guarantee any special favors. Reflecting on past experiences, she described her journey with her band as “one of the most difficult things” she’s done.

“Also, why is it a big deal?” she continued, explaining that she proposed herself as an opening act. “So why should I say ‘I’m sorry, I can’t perform on this date’? F—k you,” she stated directly to her critics.

Paris has been announced as one of the opening acts for Incubus and the Manchester Orchestra on their tour, which spans both the US and UK. “I’m excited to join @parisjackson on tour,” the band shared in an Instagram post.
