President Donald Trump expressed appreciation for American soldiers on Saturday during the 250th anniversary parade of the U.S. military, highlighting that “American soldiers are there” whenever duty and danger arise.

“Tonight, we affirm that American soldiers stand ready for every call to duty, whether it be now or in the future,” Trump stated.

“Regardless of the risk or challenge, our warriors will engage in battle. They will face fierce struggles and will seize the victory crown,” he added, emphasizing that the United States has the backing of Almighty God and the strong will of its military.

Trump began by praising the bravery of the American military, paying homage to service members throughout history, from the American Revolution to the War on Terrorism.

…There is no greater earthly strength than the courageous spirit of the American soldier, whether an Army Ranger, Paratrooper, or Green Beret. They truly are exceptional. From Bunker Hill to San Juan Hill, Gettysburg to Guadalcanal, Yorktown to Shiro, and through the trenches of Argonne to the Afghan mountains, the U.S. Army has created a remarkable legacy filled with bravery, immense sacrifice, and untold honor. Our soldiers bleed in sandy rivers and on Heartbreak Ridge, in the dusty streets of Sicily, Normandy, the Philippines, Da Nang, Baghdad, and Fallujah. Because of their relentless commitment and service, 250 years later, America stands tall, proud, and free.

After Trump’s speech, singer Lee Greenwood performed “God Bless America,” framing Trump’s birthday celebrations with his iconic song.

The night culminated in a stunning fireworks display at the mall following Greenwood’s performance.
