LA Reporter Goes Viral During Protest Coverage
During a live broadcast covering the “No Kings” protest in Los Angeles on Saturday, a news reporter had a rather unusual and emotional moment that left viewers both concerned and amused.
Stu Mundel, a helicopter reporter for Fox 11 Los Angeles, began sharing personal reflections about his recent separation from his wife and his complicated relationship with bourbon. This intimate moment was captured on a YouTube live stream.
“You know, I don’t care about me… um, I’m married. I’m legally married. I’m legally married. That’s the only way you can really say,” he expressed, responding to viewer inquiries about his personal life.
Mundel openly admitted to being separated, emphasizing he wasn’t looking to date anyone during what he referred to as the “debacles” in his life.
“I got nothing now. I got nothing… I’m not really looking… I’m trying to find myself and be happy,” he explained earnestly. “I’m taking that seriously. I don’t want anyone to see it at this point.”
He laughed off his loneliness, adding, “Of course I’m lonely? But I got a cat,” which elicited more laughs.
His candid musings caught the attention of around 5,000 viewers on the live stream, with some wondering if alcohol had influenced his on-air revelations.
At one juncture, Mundel declared, “I love bourbon,” emphasizing his fondness for various spirits. His playful repetition was met with a light-hearted response from viewers who wanted more protest coverage.
“I can do a lot, but I can’t bend space and time. I can’t bend yet. Emma, the same thing! We’re on the road!” he said, amusingly referring to his colleague.
Despite the chaotic nature of his broadcast, many fans expressed appreciation for his unfiltered commentary. One viewer even commented, “To Fox 11, this is a PR disaster. For me, this guy should be promoted.”
As the protests in LA grew more tumultuous, demonstrators clashed with law enforcement and unleashed fireworks and other objects. The demonstration, which attracted a crowd of over 20,000, descended into chaos outside the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building.
For context, Mundel is known to be a grandfather and father of four, frequently covering news throughout the Los Angeles area. While his usual broadcasts might not lean toward the bizarre, they often bring joy to viewers.
In summary, Mundel’s mixture of personal disclosure and professional responsibility proved to be both entertaining and thought-provoking against the backdrop of a volatile protest.
