The Army's 250th anniversary parade honored America, in contrast to the misguided 'No Kings' protests.

This past weekend’s military parade in Washington commemorating the Army’s 250th anniversary was a patriotic display—though some critics saw it as a response to the anger of anti-Trump protests among Democrats. It’s remarkable to think about the sheer strength of the U.S. military, which is among the most formidable in the world. Wouldn’t you want to join in the celebration?

The parade itself was a grand affair, harking back to the Revolutionary War, featuring 6,600 soldiers, 150 vehicles, and 50 helicopters, plus some pretty futuristic touches like robot dogs and drones.

While showcasing the prowess of our military, the event also served as a pointed reminder to adversaries during a time of global tension, especially with the looming threat from Iran. In a succinct yet impactful speech, the president declared that America’s enemies should be aware: challenge us, and our soldiers will act. Although he didn’t name names, his message was unmistakably directed at hostile nations.

He emphasized that “Your defeat is certain” and that any threat against Americans would lead to inevitable consequences.

Army Day

It’s interesting to reflect on previous events when Trump was mentioned in speeches or moments that became somewhat self-referential. The crowd did surprise him by singing “Happy Birthday,” yet he seemed genuinely focused on highlighting the army itself during the celebration.

Critics, however, argued that this parade was a mere ego boost for him, especially since it coincided with his birthday.

June 14 also marked the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army’s founding in 1775—before the Declaration of Independence. The day’s motto underscored a powerful truth: without the military, the nation as we know it likely wouldn’t exist.

The phrase “peace through force” truly rings true. Additionally, June 14 is flag day, marking the adoption of the national flag by the Continental Congress in 1777.

Interestingly, Trump’s birthday fell on the same day; it seemed like fate had a hand in that. Despite attempts by Minnesota’s governor to disrupt plans—bad weather was predicted—those worries proved unfounded.

The preparations for this celebratory event began long before the current administration took office. Plans may have changed under Biden, who had his own ideas that didn’t necessarily align with this grand celebration. Some critics felt any alternative Biden planned would have been embarrassing.

After all, Biden faced backlash when the Taliban showcased U.S. military equipment following the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan. It’s somewhat surprising that Democrats would criticize Trump’s parade as “vulgar” or a misuse of funds, especially when they’ve been involved in other controversies themselves.

In terms of costs, Saturday’s parade was estimated to range from $25 million to $45 million—a drop in the bucket compared to the nearly $2 billion spent yearly on military recruitment and other programs. Ironically, recruitment numbers soared recently, surpassing year-to-date goals, something that wasn’t being celebrated in certain circles.

Yet, while the military event took place, several protests emerged across the nation, seemingly aimed at overshadowing the parade. There was something almost paradoxical about cursing “No Kings” in a gathering that honored the military that liberated America from monarchial rule.

“Don’t feel like a king.”

In a light-hearted moment, Trump responded to a reporter’s question about the protests by saying, “I don’t feel like a king. I have to go through hell to get what is approved.”

There have been troubling actions from some Democrats lately. Take California Senator Alex Padilla, for example. He created quite a scene disrupting a press conference, throwing the spotlight on the ongoing narrative of Trump as a dictator.

Padilla’s timing appeared careless, especially following violence associated with a Democratic politician in Minnesota. It’s disheartening to see such chaos unfold in political discourse.

The so-called “hero of the resistance,” Vindman, hasn’t been above the fray either, furthering tensions during discussions. And then there’s Rep. Ramonica McQuiver, who displayed aggressive behavior outside of an immigration facility, along with Rep. Maxine Waters, who has previously called for Guard intervention as if it were necessary.

It’s difficult to ignore the bitterness among certain Democrats as Trump continues to elevate his presidency while they grapple with disappointment. When things were going less smoothly under his predecessor, they seemed quite content. Now, however, with borders secured and inflation stabilized, the mood has shifted dramatically, leaving many feeling unsettled.
