Mets’ Brett Baty Experiences Groin Tension After Loss

Brett Baty was removed from a game on Sunday after feeling tension in his right groin during the Mets’ seven-inning loss. The Mets manager, Carlos Mendoza, noted there’s no immediate need for XRays or MRIs.

“I was chasing a foul ball near the tarp and stepped back slightly, which is when I felt some discomfort in my right groin,” Baty explained after the team’s 9-0 defeat.

In Baty’s place, Ronny Mauricio came in to pinch-hit and played the remainder of the game. The Mets are already dealing with injuries, particularly Mark Bientos, who is out with a hamstring issue but is expected to start rehab assignments at Triple A Syracuse on Tuesday.

Baty’s performance has been a concern lately; outside of a strong showing in May, his hitting has struggled. He finished the weekend series with only one hit in three games, although he did hit a home run on Saturday.

“I’ll check in tomorrow and see how I’m feeling,” Baty mentioned, expressing mild concern. “It’s something I’ve dealt with before, and treatment usually works well for me.” He recalled a past instance of similar tension in his left groin after a base steal, which resolved after some care.

On another note, the Mets had a rough day offensively. They were hitless with runners in scoring positions and are currently ranked low for batting average in such scenarios this season.

Mendoza expressed his optimism, saying, “I believe as long as we’re creating opportunities, we have a shot with the guys at the plate.” He also had Francisco Lindor serving as the designated hitter for the first time this season and welcomed Louis Sanger Acknya back to the lineup after a ten-day absence.

Mendoza reassured fans about Lindor’s health after a toe injury, noting that he should be back to nearly full strength soon.

Lastly, the Mets are set to announce a partnership with Stop & Shop on Monday. The grocery chain plans to donate $20,000 along with a commercial fridge to the Good Pantry at PS 045 Clarence Witherspoon during the event.
