Joey Chestnut Returns to Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest
On Monday, Joey Chestnut confirmed his participation in Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest next month, after a brief absence from the event in 2024. Chestnut, who set a record by devouring 76 hot dogs in 2021, announced via social media that he and the contest organizers had found a middle ground regarding sponsorship issues. Last year, a partnership with Impossible Foods had barred him from competing.
Chestnut expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Coney Island, stating, “I’m excited to return to Nathan’s Famous July Hot Dog Eating Contest. This event means a lot to me; it’s a celebration of important traditions and American culture, which is a significant part of my life.”
He added, “I do collaborate with several companies, including those in plant-based sectors, but those partnerships don’t conflict with my passion for hot dogs.” It seems he’s found a way to balance his various interests.
Reflecting on his past feats, Chestnut recalled consuming 83 hot dogs during a special Netflix event called “Unfinished Beef.” He noted that it was the most he’d eaten without using water to assist—quite an achievement in competitive eating.
Last year, a new competitor named Patrick Bertletti took home victory, finishing with 58 hot dogs in ten minutes. As the countdown to the contest begins, many fans are eager to see if Chestnut will reclaim his title this year. The excitement is palpable, and just imagining the atmosphere at Coney Island on July 4th is… well, it’s thrilling. Let’s see what happens!
