Gavin Newsom Under Fire Amid LA Riots
After a week of intense riots in Los Angeles, the conservative activist group Catholic Vote released a report titled “Gavin Newsom Files.” This document describes California’s governor as having an “extreme” and “vicious anti-Christian agenda.”
Newsom, affiliated with the California Democratic Party, has emerged as a prominent figure speculated for the 2028 presidential election. Recently, he found himself embroiled in a tense exchange regarding President Trump’s response to the riots, urging Trump to mobilize the National Guard and Marines for what he deemed “immoral” and “illegal” activities.
In an attempt to reshape his public image, Newsom launched a podcast titled “This Is Gavin Newsom,” where he engaged with various viewpoints, including conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Yet, the Catholic Vote report argues that despite this change, Newsom is still “one of America’s most radical and destructive politicians,” criticizing his stance on issues like parental rights and transgender treatment for minors.
“Like California goes, so does the rest of the country.”
The report suggests that, even with his recent rebranding, Newsom has consistently supported controversial issues like abortion and transgender rights for children. It highlights that he might be changing his public persona but remains committed to his ideologies.
As a potential presidential candidate, the Catholic Vote points out how Newsom’s liberal policies have extended beyond California. They cite his past comments on same-sex marriage and his aggressive promotion of abortion rights, including the signing of numerous abortion bills in just one month.
One particular instance noted was his controversial advertisement declaring “California will help if abortion is needed,” which garnered criticism from various religious leaders who labeled it as “merciless” and a “blasphemous act.”
Former law enforcement officials have also criticized Newsom’s approach to governance, suggesting that his leadership style has contributed to unrest in the state. The report contends that he misuses the concept of parental choice to advocate for transgender treatments, framing it as a matter of family freedom.
The Catholic Vote concluded their report by arguing that if California truly represents American values, then it should align with biblical truths and biological realities.
Josh Mercer, Vice President of Catholic Vote, stated that many Americans were distressed by the events in Los Angeles, attributing them to what he describes as reckless governance. He pointed out that Newsom appears more focused on his presidential ambitions than on addressing pressing issues in California, leading to significant population loss in the state.
In response, Newsom’s spokesperson dismissed the report, suggesting it comes from a politically driven organization aligned with Trump, thus questioning its legitimacy.
