Court officials attacked in deliberate stabbing incident at Lower Manhattan criminal court

Authorities report a disturbing incident involving two court officials in New York City, characterized as “targeted attacks.” This occurred early Monday morning in a criminal court building located downtown, according to Al Baker, a spokesman for the state court’s administration.

Baker stated that initial reports indicated at least two court officials sustained stab wounds and serious injuries. This incident happened before 9:45 a.m. in the building’s south lobby. He mentioned that several judges swiftly intervened, managing to control the situation near the metal detectors by disarming the assailant and apprehending him.

The attack, captured on video, seemed premeditated, as it involved an officer in uniform stationed at the court. It’s unclear how the weapon made it into the courthouse, though it appears the stabbings occurred near the security checkpoint. One officer was able to walk to an ambulance, while the other required assistance and was transported in a wheelchair.

Both officials are reportedly in stable condition and expected to recover, but the New York Supreme Court Executive Association shared concerns about one officer who suffered serious injuries to the face and neck.

A criminal investigation led by the New York State Unified Court System is currently in progress, but details regarding the suspects and any potential charges remain undisclosed.

This incident took place in the same courthouse that previously hosted President Donald Trump’s criminal trial and another high-profile case involving Daniel Penny, who was found not guilty of criminal negligence in the death of Jordan Neely.
