Giancarlo Stanton Returns, Pablo Reyes Designated for Assignment

Giancarlo Stanton is back, signaling the end of Pablo Reyes’ stint with the Yankees.

The utility player was designated for assignment on Monday, coinciding with Stanton’s activation from the injured list.

Reyes, now 31, has posted a modest slash line of .194/.242/.226 over 31 games this season after being invited as a non-roster player in the spring.

This decision comes just days after Reyes showcased a key moment in the Yankees’ recent sweep against the Royals last Thursday.

He made a significant play, running from second to first on a line drive hit by Paul Goldschmidt.

In a moment of excitement, Reyes dashed home on a close throw, saying, “There’s a bit of panic as the game is behind. And you definitely want to score there… I lost my balance, but [third-base coach] Louis Rojas told me, ‘Continue, keep going!’ and I just went for it.”

Despite a spirited performance, concerns are lingering—having played with teams in Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, and Boston, it seems Reyes might have to look elsewhere to extend his baseball journey.

“I try to enjoy every opportunity,” he reflected. “If given the chance, I’m here to help my teammates however I can. That’s all I can control.”
