A recent survey by The Economist/YouGov indicates President Donald Trump’s immigration policy has earned a slight net approval.
In a survey, respondents were asked whether they approve or disapprove of Trump’s management of immigration. Results showed 49% approval, while 45% disapproved, giving him a net approval of +4%.
Public opinion is notably divided along party lines. A significant 85% of Democrats disapprove of Trump’s immigration policies, whereas only 12% approve. Conversely, 88% of Republicans support his handling, with just 10% disapproving. Among independents, 46% approve, while 44% disapprove.
The survey took place between June 6 and 9, 2025, involving 1,533 individuals, with a margin of error of 3.5%.
This aligns with another recent survey, revealing that 51% of voters are in favor of how Trump is handling immigration.
According to Morning Consult:
This is part of a larger narrative surrounding immigration, particularly after Trump’s strong response to anti-ICE protests in California. Recently, he increased military presence in Los Angeles while supporting the arrest of California Governor Gavin Newsom. Reports indicated that state Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit against the administration for infringing upon state rights.
This comes amidst protests against recent actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), where demonstrations erupted in cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco. Last week, several undocumented immigrants linked to criminal activities were arrested in the LA area. Officials from the Department of Homeland Security noted that many had extensive criminal records, which included offenses such as sexual battery, child abuse, and robbery.
