Iran’s Actions in the Ongoing Conflict
Since direct confrontations began between Iran and Israel last Friday, there have been no reported fatalities among Israeli soldiers, as highlighted by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
Speaking at the site of a missile strike on a residential apartment in central Israel, Saar remarked on what he termed “Iran war crimes.”
The Iranian regime focuses on civilians. They exclusively target civilian populations. There’s no record of military personnel fatalities; only civilians suffer. Their attacks hit population centers, whereas we target military facilities, like nuclear and missile programs. They, on the other hand, seem to aim solely at civilians and populated areas.
International law strictly prohibits targeting civilians or launching attacks with the awareness that civilians might be harmed without clear military objectives. The one site in Iran’s operations that could arguably be seen as legitimate is the power plant at an oil and gas refinery in Haifa, located in northern Israel.
The Israeli government’s press office has released some data regarding Iran’s missile strikes as of Tuesday:
As of June 17, 2025, at 13:00:
Since the operation’s initiation:
- Under 400 ballistic missiles have been launched.
- Hundreds of UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) have been deployed.
- Approximately 35 significant locations have been targeted.
Casualties:
- 24 fatalities reported.
- Over 647 injuries, classified as follows:
- 10 in serious condition.
- 37 in moderate condition.
- More than 600 with minor injuries.
Damage Assessment:
- A total of 18,766 claims for damage have been submitted to the Israeli tax authorities.
- 15,861 concerning structural damages.
- 1,272 involving vehicles.
- 1,633 linked to other properties.
Evacuations:
- 2,725 individuals have left their homes.
As of now, the international community has refrained from directly accusing Iran of targeting Israeli civilians. Instead, there have been calls for both nations to refrain from targeting civilian sites, almost as if to suggest both parties share responsibility.
For instance, a statement from the G7 noted the need to protect civilians, which President Donald Trump declined to endorse. It further indicated a broader concern about Iran’s role in “regional instability and fear.”
