Liv Golf Returns to the U.S.
Liv Golf, a unique league that seems to be capturing attention globally, is making waves in the world of golf. The idea is that the sport should be accessible to everyone, and it looks like they’re serious about that.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monaghan announced on Tuesday that he plans to step down from his position. Tiger Woods expressed enthusiasm for what lies ahead.
Monaghan’s departure is set for next year, with Brian Lolap, a prominent NFL executive, taking over as the new CEO of the PGA Tour. In a public letter, Lolap stated, “It’s an honor to step into this role. Golf has such a rich history and countless traditions that resonate with many sports aficionados.” He acknowledged the influence these traditions have on players and fans alike, emphasizing that professional golf is evolving alongside how audiences engage with sports.
Woods shared his thoughts on social media, congratulating Monaghan and welcoming Lolap. “Congrats to Brian on becoming the new CEO. We’re curious to see where this tour is headed, and a huge thank you to Jay for everything he’s done for both the game and its supporters.”
Monaghan remarked that Lolap is an excellent fit for the PGA Tour’s next chapter. He emphasized that Lolap’s expertise and vision would be crucial as the tour continues to evolve. “We’ve made some significant strides recently, like enhancing player opportunities and elevating fan experiences—but there’s still much to achieve,” Monaghan added, noting ongoing opportunities that lie ahead.
The timing of Monaghan’s announcement coincides with ongoing discussions between a public investment fund and LIV Golf, stemming back over two years. These negotiations have yet to yield results, leaving Monaghan under some scrutiny.
