Vance Defends Trump’s Stance on Iran Amid Social Media Accusations
On Monday, Vice President JD Vance spoke out in support of President Donald Trump’s views on Iran, responding to what he deemed a “crazy” claim circulating online. Vance shared his observations on X, noting that while he has a biased perspective—being both an insider and a friend of Trump—he felt compelled to clarify some misconceptions about Iranian nuclear policies.
He pointed out that Trump has maintained a firm stance for more than ten years, asserting that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons. Vance mentioned that recently, Trump has pushed his foreign policy team to enter agreements with Iran to prevent uranium enrichment, emphasizing that the President has consistently underscored this point.
Addressing the confusion online regarding “private nuclear power generation” and “uranium enrichment,” Vance explained that, theoretically, Iran could utilize nuclear energy without enrichment. However, Iran’s refusal to comply with regulations means they are enriching uranium beyond levels needed for civilian energy, which is a clear violation of their obligations to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“There’s a difference between pursuing civilian nuclear energy and demanding advanced enrichment capabilities,” he stated. The Vice President also lamented the ongoing enrichment efforts aimed at producing weapon-grade uranium, which contradicts international agreements.
Vance expressed that he has yet to encounter a convincing argument for why Iran needs to exceed the uranium enrichment threshold for civilian use. He hasn’t seen any substantive rebuttals to the IAEA’s findings either. “The President has shown restraint in military dealings while still focusing on protecting our interests. Ultimately, the decision on how to address Iran’s enrichment will be his,” he explained.
Moreover, Vance noted the public’s valid concerns over foreign entanglements, especially after decades of contentious foreign policies. Nevertheless, he expressed confidence in Trump’s integrity given his firsthand experience in the matter and reassured that Trump is committed to utilizing the U.S. military strategically for American objectives.
In a recent statement, Trump called for an actual “unconditional surrender” from Iran, coinciding with Israel’s military action targeting Iranian nuclear facilities.
Beneath this, the U.S. is ramping up its military assets in the region, and reports suggest that Israel has thwarted Iran’s attempts at counter-strikes. Following his early departure from the G7 Summit in Canada, Trump returned to Washington to participate in a briefing on the situation.
In a social media post, Trump also referenced knowledge of the whereabouts of Iran’s so-called “Super Leader,” describing him as an easy target but stating that they are currently prioritizing the safety of civilians and U.S. personnel. He asserted, however, that the U.S. and Israel would establish complete air control over Iran.
